Mr. Eddie Gene Hayes, Sr. of Goodlettsville, TN passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014.
Eddie was born May 13, 1933 in Old Hickory, TN to parents, the late Clarence and Susie Midgett Hayes.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Bell Telephone System after 40 years of service. Eddie was a member of Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 65 years and served as an Elder. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile and his love for children.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joanne McDuffee Hayes; three children, Eddie (Kimberly) Hayes, Jr., Susan Davis, Anne (Ronnie) Helton; seven grandchildren, Dathan (Fany) Hayes, Susanne Walker, Ashley (Bob) Farmer, Megan Helton, Kyle Davis, Jaclyn Helton, Jackson Helton; six great-grandchildren, Julian Hayes, Marisabel Hayes, Lily Walker, MollyAnne Farmer, Jameson Farmer, Marie Claire Helton; special cousin, Jimmy Midgett; aunt, Mary Katherine Jackson.
Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Malcolm Patton officiating. Eulogy will be given by Jerry Stone. Interment will follow at Beech Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kyle Davis, Jackson Helton, Dathan Hayes, Bob Farmer, Ronnie Helton, Tippy Curtis, Neil Taylor and Wally Hardison. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy McDuffee, Kenneth McDuffee, Donald Price, Jerry Stone, John D. Scott, Tom Hunter, Jim Lamberson, Ronnie Jackson, Ross Thompson, Eugene Hardison, John Sloan and Donald Ray Kirby.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 15th from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville, TN and Sunday 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Joseph Taylor and Nurse Practitioner, Susan Kihlmire for their love and constant care, also a special thank you to Willowbrook Hospice for their loving care and kindness.
