Earl J. Davenport, age 87 of Gallatin, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. A native of Flint Michigan, he was born to the late Oren and Carrie Davenport. Mr. Davenport served in the United States Army during World War II where he served as an Infantry Unit Commander and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster for his endeavors. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Davenport; sister, June Schilling. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Edith Davenport of Gallatin; son, Michael Davenport Jan of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Rebecca Davenport of Franklin, Rachel Jasper Shaun of Franklin, Josh Davenport of Hendersonville, Hannah Forte Chris of Hendersonville; great-grandchildren, Naomi Forte of Hendersonville, Tabitha Forte of Hendersonville, and Elijah Jasper of Franklin. Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of Gallatin Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Davenport officiating. Interment will follow in the Sumner Memorial Gardens where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 23 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission, 639 Lafayette St., Nashville, TN 37203, or The Gideons International, P.O.
