Sutton, Harold Samuel
Age 75 of Bradenton, FL - saw the face of his Lord June 18, 2006. He had been living in Brentwood TN, with his wife, Fran, during a prolonged illness. Dr Sutton was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Mattie Sutton of Bradenton FL, and his brothers Hewston and Spencer Sutton. He is survived by his wife of 46 yrs, Frances Saylors Sutton of Bradenton FL and Brentwood TN; daughter Lori Bridges Stephen of Brentwood TN; daughter Leslie McGehee Glenn of Franklin TN; and son Dr. Dwight Sutton Julie of Louisville KY; brother Fred Sutton of Melbourne FL, and grandchildren Spencer, Kate, and Heath Bridges; Houston, Mattie, and Sutton McGehee; and Shelby and Kylee Sutton.
Dr Sutton was born on February 21, 1931 in Bradenton, FL. He attended Ballard Elementary and Manatee High School, graduating from David Lipscomb Campus School in 1949. He joined the United States Navy in 1951 and was assigned to the Marine Corp in Korea as a medic. He received two purple Hearts for his distinguished service. Following his discharge in 1954, he continued his education with the University of Tennessee earning both his undergraduate and medical degrees. He completed his residency in Richmond, VA at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr Sutton and his wife Fran returned to Bradenton, FL in 1963 where he began his 35 yr medical practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He assisted in the delivery of over 6000 babies in Manatee County. Dr. Sutton was one of thirty Manatee Co. physicians involved in the development of Blake Memorial Hospital located in Bradenton, FL. He formed a partnership with his brother Fred to establish Sutton Properties, a real estate development and management company located in Palm Bay, FL. Dr. Sutton also developed Plantation Village, a mobile home community located in Bradenton, FL.
His family wishes him to be remembered not only for business or civic interests, but more importantly for the positive impact he had on the lives of individuals. He served as both deacon and elder in the 43rd St. Church of Christ in Bradenton, FL. His concern for the welfare of children led him to the Mount Dora Christian Home and Bible School, where he served as chairman of the board for 25 yrs. He was also involved with David Lipscomb University serving on the board of Directors from 1984-1989.
He was as a strong and fruitful tree planted by a loving God, nurtured by the rain and sunshine of God's love, rooted deep in the truth of His Word. A strong tree, made stronger by the trials of this world, never broken in spirit but continually broadening the reach of the limbs God gave him, so as to feed and nurture many. Of all his accomplishments, none was as precious as when he was baptized into Christ, looking forward to hearing "Well done, good and faithful servant...Come and share your master's happiness!"
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-8 pm on Tuesday June 20, 2006 at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home and Memory Gardens, 9090 Hwy 100 Nashville, TN, 615 646-9292. A Private family service will take place with James Moore of Mount Dora officiating. Active Pallbearers: Stephen Bridges, Spencer Bridges, Sam McElroy, Glenn McGehee, Houston McGehee, Andrew Saylors, Cort Sutton, and Alex Whitley. Honorary Pallbearers: Cope Carter, Doug Cope, David Eble, Tommy Fulford, Gary Gregory, Dr. Irving Hall, Charles Jett, and Dr. Jim Rackley. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt.
