Dottie Jane Reid, age 81, of Nashville, TN passed away in Old Hickory, TN on January 18th, 2025. Dottie was born in Dickson, TN to the late Ruby and G. B. Mitchell Jr. on September 11th, 1943. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 25 years James Wilbur Gourley, and her sons: Mark Mackey, Eugene Hodges, and Dewayne Hodge. She is also reunited in heaven with her sisters Madeline Montgomery and Julie Hendricks. She is survived by her sons Charles Mackey Jr. and Mitchell Mackey, as well as her sisters Rosie Krapf, Joyce Burns, Bonnie Mitchell, and Sheila Fletcher. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Although she is gone, her memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
A woman of formidable strength and an indomitable will, Dottie was known for her strong, stubborn, and hard-headed nature. Yet beneath that façade remained a genuine person with a heart of gold, one that beat with love for her family and an unwavering commitment to their well-being. She raised five energetic boys, a testament to her strength and patience, navigating the complexities of motherhood with a grace that only she could muster. Her sons fondly recall the joy of wearing matching outfits crafted by her skilled hands, a reflection of her creativity and devotion that went beyond mere threads and fabric.
Dottie's interests revealed her caring personality. She often found solace in the art of sewing, where each stitch was a labor of love, a tangible reminder of her dedication to her family. In her free time she would find her seated comfortably, engrossed in the world of reality television—whether the courtroom dramas of Judge Judy or the sensational escapades of Jerry Springer, she enjoyed the look into other people’s lives. She also embraced the thrill of wrestling; her boys remember going out on Saturday nights to enjoy the electrifying matches. Those nights were filled with laughter and excitement, forming cherished memories that would last a lifetime—a testament to her ability to foster connection and joy within her family.
There are no services scheduled for Ms. Reid. In lieu of flowers the family please asks for donations to be made in memory of Dottie to the Wounded Warrior Project to honor of all her family that nobly served to protect our country.
