Dorothy Scott

SCOTT, Ms. Dorothy Marie, passed away on February 10, 2011 at the Healthcare Center at West Meade Place. Dorothy was born May 23, 1927, Nashville, TN the daughter of Edgar Floyd and Lillie Mae Cox Scott. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Homer Lee Scott. Known affectionately as Dotta, she is survived by sister, Shelia Gale Scott of Mufreesboro and by brother, Dr. Ray D. Scott Dr. Willodene, Nashville; nieces, Pamela Saal Philip and Joyce Leanne Searcy; nephews, Floyd Thomas and Larry Scott; devoted cousin Carolyn Austin Presley, and several grand-nieces and nephews. Upon graduation from Cohn High School, Dorothy entered nurses training at Vanderbilt Hospital. Later, she was employed by Life and Casualty Insurance Company. The company merged with National Life and Accident Insurance Company which then merged with American General. She worked in the insurance field forty years, half of which as Department Supervisor for which she received several awards of recognition. Dorothy was a member of West Nashville United Methodist Church; a devoted fan of country and gospel music; an avid knitter and other handwork; was fond of cooking, fishing and movies. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of the Healthcare Center at West Meade Place; to the staff of the Waterford Assisted Living in Bellevue; to Guardian Hospice and to Drs. Ben Rowan and Michael Baker for the special attention and care given to Dorothy. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made, in her honor, to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. A graveside service will be held on Saturday Feb.12, at 11 a.m. at historic Mt. Olivet Cemetery 1101 Lebanon Road, 37210.
