Donald Gillespie

Donald Gillespie, age 77 of Goodlettsville, passed away June 24, 2021. He was born in Nashville,

TN on July 12, 1943. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Wells Mason, and stepfather,

Melvin Mason, and son Donald Scott Gillespie. He is survived by his children, Shannon

Jones (Larry), Sherree Capshaw (Todd), Shane Gillespie (Mary), Brandon Gillespie (Tammy),

Shonda Carter (Michael), 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Donald did not care much about accumulating worldly possessions but rather his greatest joy

came from his from his family. He became a father at a young age and worked long hours to

provide for his family. He once worked 12 hour shifts seven days a week for an entire year

without a day off just to make ends meet. He never complained about the hard work but was

content to make sure his family was always cared for. He was proud of his children and provided

an endless amount of love which only grew when grandchildren and great-grandchildren were

added to the family. He was a devoted grandfather and took pleasure in spending time with all

of grandchildren. He played hide and seek and board games, enjoyed taking them camping and

fishing, and would try just about any activity they persuaded him to try. He has gone hiking,

kayaking, snow tubing, sledding, rope climbing, four wheeling, and more with his grandchildren.

Donald’s back door was always open and his children and grandchildren were honored to care

for him during his illness and shower him with love as he had generously shown through the

years.

Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville Monday June 28 from 4-8 pm.

Funeral Service will be on Tuesday June 29 at 11:30 am with interment to follow at Spring Hill
