David Baird Gaines, beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on January 21, 2024, in Greenbrier, Tennessee. He was born on October 14, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Carleton and Florence Donaldson Gaines.
David led a remarkable life, leaving a lasting impact on those who the privilege of knowing him. He dedicated his career to serving others and made significant contributions to his field until his retirement as a financial analyst with the Compliance Division of the Department of Financial Institutions for the State of Tennessee.
David's passion for music was evident from an early age. He excelled as a trombonist and showcased his talents in various settings. From being an integral part of his high school marching band to performing with distinction in the Florida State University Marching Band and the Air Force Band during his military service with the United States Air Force, David's trombone echoed with skill.
While music played a significant role in David's life, he also believed in the power of education. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Florida State University and later broadened his horizons by obtaining a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama. This unique combination of artistic expression and business acumen allowed him to approach challenges with creativity and precision.
Beyond his professional achievements, David will be remembered for the qualities that endeared him to those who knew him best. Known for his unwavering faith, he was a pillar of strength and resilience for many. His warm and friendly personality drew people toward him effortlessly. Whether it was extending a helping hand or offering words of encouragement, David's compassionate nature touched countless lives.
David possessed an infectious sense of humor that brought joy to every gathering he attended. David leaves behind many cherished memories for his loved ones to hold onto. He will forever be missed by his sister, Jayne Schriver, and nieces, Debbie (Travis) Slusher, Ann (Curt) Dine, and Kelly (Kevin) Schreiber. Despite the irreplaceable void left by his passing, their hearts are filled with gratitude for having shared their lives with such an extraordinary individual. He also leaves behind several great nieces and great nephews.
As we mourn the loss of David Baird Gaines, it is important to celebrate the profound impact he had on our lives. A celebration of David's life will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1:30 pm at St. James the Less Episcopal Church, where David was a longtime member. There will be a reception following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. James the Less Episcopal Church 411 West Due West Ave, Madison, Tennessee 37115.
