David Eddings

Mr. David Wendell Eddings, age 84, of Cross Plains, passed away on May 20, 2023 in Nashville, TN. He was born on January 21, 1939 to the late James and Mattie Eddings. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by brothers, Dannie Eddings, James Eddings, Jr., Ray Eddings, Ralph Eddings; and sister, Mary Graham.

David was born in Columbia, TN  but grew up in East Nashville. He was a graduate of Coffee County High School class of 1957. He worked for WTVF as a projectionist for 6 and a half years. He went to the police academy in 1964 and then retired as a Lieutenant with Metro Police Department in 2000; and was one of the original Newman Raiders.  He was also a firearm and traffic instructor in the Police Academy.

David enjoyed riding motorcycles and traveling in his motorhome with his wife, Barbara. In 1985, he was cast in the movie, Marie, which is based on a true story. He loved his dog, Rex, and his three cats. He loved his family but his favorite title of all was “Pawpaw” and “Grandpa.” He was a Mason for over 50 years.

David is survived by his wife, Barbara Eddings; daughters, Michelle (Danie) Layne and Donna (Clem) Hizer; grandchildren, Shelby Layne, Daniel “DJ” (Madison) Layne, Clem Jr. (Jill) Hizer, Amber Hizer, Eric Hizer, Mason (Kandace) Hizer, and Peyton Hizer; and eight great grandchildren.
