Betty Lamb Hyder

October 7, 1937 — December 3, 2024

Goodlettsville

Betty Sue Lamb Hyder, 87, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 under hospice care, surrounded by her beloved family.  Born October 7, 1937 in Bedford County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Albert Burton Lamb and Addie Deschield Simrell Lamb.  She was a remarkable woman whose spirit touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.

Betty dedicated 30 years to her career with GMAC demonstrating steadfast commitment and professionalism throughout her time there. Following her retirement, she embraced her passion for the holiday season by volunteering for many years with the Christmas Train at Rivergate Mall, a labor of love that brought joy to countless children and families.

Her home was a haven for gatherings, where she cherished spending time with family and friends. Betty's sunroom, filled with warmth and laughter, was the perfect backdrop for evenings of playing cards and watching the beautiful hummingbirds flit about at her feeders. Renowned for her culinary skills, she is lovingly remembered for making the world's best coconut cake, a treat that undoubtedly delighted all who were fortunate enough to indulge.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joel Edward "Ed" Hyder, who she waited over three decades to meet; an infant child lost before birth who she is now able to hold; siblings Geneva Jones, Rachel Davis, and L.B. Lamb; and daughter-in-law Gwen Hyder.

A supportive and encouraging presence, Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and the reminder to uplift one another. She is survived by her four children: Tony (Laude) Hyder, Darell (Leti) Hyder, Lisa (Dan) Ferguson, and Dawn (George) Davis; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.  Her caring heart extended to her extended family, which includes nieces Brenda Gilbert, Patsy Gaither, Kathy Vargo, Leanne (David) Johnson, and Marian McGrath Ramsey. Betty also found companionship in her special friend, Curtis Wilkes, and the loyal presence of her cat, Mollie.  She also leaves behind several great nieces and great nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in Goodlettsville. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, beginning at 1:00 PM, also at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends and visitors one hour prior to the funeral.  Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Goodlettsville.  Pallbearers will be Corey Ferguson, Joel Davis, Nick Davis, David Collier, Jeremy Irwin, and Camron Hyder.

Betty Lamb Hyder will be forever remembered for her kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind, serving as a beacon of love and support for family and friends in the days to come.
