The family of Azora Ruth Steinberger-Hemminger-Swift sadly announces her death in Mt. Juliet, TN, on March 7, 2023, at the age of 88.
Azora was born in Selkirk, Michigan on May 25, 1934, to Ralph and Lenora Steinberger. She attended Greenville University in Port Huron, MI, where she met her first husband, Robert Hemminger. They settled in Nashville TN and raised three children. Azora taught elementary school, was a full-time mother, and eventually became a registered and private-duty nurse with a strong interest in holistic health. She had a passion for her Church of Christ community, Music City Single Square Dance group, and religious music, and she traveled the world with her second husband, Jack Swift, and their many square-dance friends. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her sweet song, angelic piano playing, kind heart, gentle spirit, and humble love, always putting others’ needs before her own. She will be greatly missed.
Azora is survived by her husband Jack Swift, stepson Troy Swift, children Bradley (Pam), Rodney (Cindy), and Mara Hemminger, grandchildren Adam, Brian (Kelly), Carly, Duncan, David (Jennifer), and Hannelore Hemminger, and great-grandchildren Becket and Wesley Hemminger. She is predeceased by her father Ralph Steinberger, mother Lenora King Steinberger, and brother Paul Steinberger (Marge).
