Anne Romaine Cato Sowell was born September 22, 1930 in Nashville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hood Sowell. She is survived by her sons: Jim (Virginia) Atlanta, Drew (Kerri) Hendersonville, Alan (Beth) Brentwood, and daughter Evelyn Bonds(Don) Hendersonville, and ten grandchildren: Rachel Sowell Pursley, Kristie Sowell, Erica Sowell, Kendall Sowell, Alicia Sowell, Kristina Bonds, Maria Bonds, Daniel Sowell, Kirk Sowell, and Thomas Sowell and great-grandchild Landon Littles. She also is survived by a sister, Jane Mankin (Jerry) and brother, Jack Cato (Anita) and three nieces: Vycki Puckett, Jonie Baird, and Julie Buttrey.

Ms Sowell lived almost all of her life in the Nashville and Hendersonville area. She graduated from East High School and from David Lipscomb College with a degree in education. She taught elementary students for several years.

A writer of short stories, devotionals, nostalgia and helpful hints, Ms. Sowell's work appeared in various Christian and secular publications. She loved history and extensively researched her family's genealogy. She was proud to have ten American Revolutionary War veteran ancestors and be a member of the Joshua Sumner Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the Revolution).

She was a public speaker and charter member of Rivergate Toastmasters. As a longtime member of the Sumner County Wildflower Club, she enjoyed the outdoors, hiking and was an expert on Tennessee wildflowers.

Ms Sowell generously gave of her time and resources to help others through Meals on Wheels, prison ministry, tutoring adults and outreach to the elderly. She was a faithful and humble servant of the Lord, teaching Sunday school for decades.

Residing in Hendersonville for the past 34 years, Ms Sowell will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home, Goodlettsville Wednesday from 4-8pm, and Thursday from 10 am until service time at 11 am. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
