Allie Beatrice "Mac" Sheppard age 96 passed away June 28, 2017, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Greenbrier, TN on September 22, 1920.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Frank Sheppard; her parents, Everette and Susie Dorris McMurtry, four sisters and six brothers. She is survived by sisters, Jacqueline Schleicher, Jean Matthews, June (Flavious) Smith, sisters-in law, Dora Palmer, Sara (Sam) Garrett and Betty McMurtry; sons Dan (Peggy) Sheppard, Goodlettsville, Steven ( Molly) Sheppard Hilton Head ,SC, daughters, Susan (Marshall) Edwards, Goodlettsville, Kathy (David) Gillihan, Greenbrier, 15 grandchildren, Shannon, Danny, Steve, Laura (Ryan), Denise (Michael), Marshall (Teresa), Monee` (Jacquire), Matt (Meaghan), Merry (Dave), Ashley (Chris), Taylor, Chase (Aymie), Ashley (Donna), Josh, Carly (Trevor); 26 great-grandchildren, Sterling, Daniel, Dylan, Will, Kyle, Nikki, Alysha, Baylee, Dalton, Michael, Peyton, Blayke (Payton), Drew, Chad, Matthew (Michelle), Braden, Braxtin, Briley, Will, Brooklin, Presley, Kesler, Gralynn, Blakely, Aiden and Emma and 3 great-great grandchildren, Trey, Sailor, Adalynn and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was salutatorian in the Greenbrier Class of 1938. She received her teacher's certificate from Middle Tennessee Teachers College and began her career teaching in a one-room school house outside Greenbrier. In addition to raising her family, she taught elementary education at area schools including Goodlettsville and Gateway Elementary. She also operated a kindergarten at Shepherd Hills Methodist Church (Rivergate) for several years. She was a past-president of the Goodlettsville Elementary PTA and Worthy Matron in the Eastern Star.
Together, she and Frank were active members of the Goodlettsville Chamber of Commerce and they were instrumental in the construction of the Manskers Fort for Homecoming 86 during the Alexander Administration. They were also co-founders of the Mansker Players where they acted in and produced numerous plays and musicals.
She was a founding member and organist at Shepherd Hills Methodist when it was located in Rivergate and then returned her membership to Connell Memorial UMC.
She enjoyed landscape gardening, collecting dolls, decorating her home for holidays, giving back to her community and spending time with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank friends and long term caregivers, Sandie, Brenda, and Genia. Thanks also to the caring staff at Brookdale, where she resided the last few weeks prior to her death.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00-8:00 pm at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home and Saturday 12:00-2:00 pm at Connell Memorial Methodist Church where a Celebration of "Mac's" Life will be at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connell Memorial UMC or the Charity of choice.
