Haskell, Albert R., Ph.D, 84, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 in Hendersonville Tennessee. Born on July 6, 1925 in Waterville, Maine to the late Florence and Kennard Haskell, Dr. Haskell grew up in Cherryfield, Maine and graduated from Cherryfield Academy at age 16 to join the Navy during World War II. Al was married to the late Mary Gerth Haskell of Lane, Kansas for 54 years. Al was preceded in death by his brother Howard (Wilda) Haskell, and his sister Evelyn (Buddy) Farnsworth. His sister Jean (Robert) Sigler is a retired teacher in Brewer, Maine.
Al and Mary had two children: Daniel L. (Debbie) and Alene V. (Michael Berezo), four grandchildren: Erin (Mark) Williams, Mathew Haskell, Jake Haskell, and Alison Berezo and one great grandchild: Zach Williams, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
After Al earned his undergraduate degree at University of Kansas and doctorate degree at University of Florida, he became the head of research at Marion Laboratories in Kansas City. Expanding that research, he became the Vice Chancellor of the medical unit at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and finally served as the Dean of Pharmacy at the University of Nebraska, before retiring to Florida to enjoy boating and golf.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Cole and Garrett on Goodlettsville, Tennessee. .
The family is planning a private celebration of his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations would be welcome to the charity of the donor's choice.
